Whether it is for academic, home, workplace, or athletic reasons, Dr. Matsuura believes that helping those develop and rehabilitate their visual abilities is the most fulfilling aspect of his work. His interest in optometry started when his love for baseball met vision science. He pursued his Doctor of Optometry degree to explore this relationship after graduating with his B.S. Biological Sciences from UC Irvine.
Dr. Matsuura earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University. Through his education and clinical training, Dr. Matsuura is board-certified and is also licensed to use and prescribe pharmaceutical agents, manage patients with glaucoma, and perform lacrimal irrigation/dilation procedures.
Upon joining San Diego Center for Vision Care, Dr. Matsuura was shortly appointed as the Clinical Director of the Myopia Management Clinic where he designed therapeutic interventions to combat the increasing levels of nearsightedness in children and teenagers. Dr. Matsuura was appointed the President and Clinical Director of San Diego Center for Vision Care in 2022.
Dr. Matsuura is a professional and community lecturer in the San Diego and Orange County areas to local rehabilitation hospitals, pre-optometry societies, and various healthcare professionals such as physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, psychologists, etc. Dr. Matsuura currently serves on the Professional Advisory Council for the San Diego Brain Injury Foundation. He holds professional memberships with the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, American Optometric Association, California Optometric Association, and San Diego County Optometric Society. He is an adjunct professor and clinical instructor of optometry at Southern California College of Optometry, Western Health Sciences College of Optometry, and Illinois College of Optometry.
